I'm very sorry that it's been a while since the last newsletter has come out. I haven't had as much time lately to work on the website, but now I have a little more free time and lots more help. *** The ELB Staff Grows! ***

Last month one of our Board Patrol members, ElmoMommyTo1, has taken over the job of moderating some of our character forums including the Cookie Monster Cottage, Grover's Grove, and the Bird Bath. She has created some fun trivia games for us to play in each of those forums, so go check them out!

<br />
We are also excited to have a new administrative staff member. Police Chief Chris will be handling security and privacy issues at the Elmo's Playground website and the ELB. He has already written a privacy policy for us, and is working on opening up a Police Department at the ELB (for more info, see below.) We're sure you'll be hearing more from him soon. Thanks for helping keep our members safe!

We still have plenty of open positions for talented, ambitious members. We are in need of some more moderators, some people who can award prizes/coins, a news reported, a welcoming person, and some advertisers. If you can help out in any of these areas, send me an email with what job you'd like to help out with and why you are qualified for this position.

Hello everyone,

I’d like to inform you of an upcoming forum and page for the ELB and Elmo’s Playground. Recently there have been some events that have called into question the safety and security of this wonderful place and our responsibilities to the members, young and old, of this site. In reaction to these events we will be adding a forum and page that will be used to inform users, research various legal concerns, investigate problems, and propose future changes for the safety and security of our corner of Elmo’s world.

We, meaning me and my volunteer staff, will be primarily responsible for researching legal matters pertaining to the site and proposing actions and solutions to secure our site and insure the safety of our users. Our secondary mission will be handling security matters through investigations and interviews and to propose a course of action to resolve the issue in the best interest of the users and this site.

Keep watching the board, we’ll be there soon. If anyone is interested in helping by becoming a member of my staff there will be a posting in this new forum with the kind of help I need. Thank you all for your patience with me.

We have been working hard at brining even more fun stuff to the ELB! So far, most of our updates have been security features recommended by our new Police Chief. The most important security features are the way new registrations are now handled. All members are now required to submit their first name, last name, and birthday for validation purposes. This information will not be publicly displayed on the website, unless you choose to. Also, we are no longer allowed anyone with "free" email addresses to register. This will help eliminate any of the bad people who have been registering under disguises.

The latest Elmo to hit the dance floor is the Shout! Elmo. Press Elmo's left foot and he will wave his arms in the air and dancing up and down to the music. Elmo actually goes up and down in stages to the music as it gets softer and softer. Then, he goes right back up with the music as it gets louder and louder. Elmo comes with a second mode of play when you press his right foot. When you press Elmo's right foot he will challenge you to go as low and high as you can!

We our sad to report that the Elmo dolls at Build a Bear are retiring soon. The good news is that Build a Bear is offering free Elmo sounds for all their Elmo dolls. If you have a chance to make one of these Elmos, I would recommend that you head over the your nearest Build a Bear factory soon! I made my own Elmo over the weekend and I had a very fun time! OK, this isn't quite Sesame Street news but this is about their cousins, the Muppets. If you enjoyed the movie CinderElmo, then we're sure that you'll love this movie coming out soon. “The Muppets: Wizard of Oz” is a hilarious version of the Wizard of Oz starring the Muppets with Kermit as the Scarecrow, Fozzie as the Lion,

Gonzo as the Tin Thing, Pepe the King Prawn as Toto and Miss Piggy as all four witches. Look out for this DVD next week starting on August 9th.

Sesame Place is celebrating their 25th anniversary with the ultimate birthday party! This bash lasts all season long with a new birthday parade, great special events and all the rides, shows and play areas that make this the place for kids and the kid in all of us. With our growing member population, our staff has grown too! We are always looking for talented members to give us a fresh perspective and new ideas. It's about time we get some discussion going about our other muppet friends! Last, but definitely not least, ELMOISMYGOD! has taken over the Symptoms of an Elmo Lover forum. ELMOISMYGOD! has been a long time member of the board, and has already offered a reward of 5 coins for each symptom posted. A big ELB welcome to all our new staff members!

ELB members are anxiously awaiting two Elmo dolls that are coming out this summer. The first one is E-L-M-O, which sings along to the YMCA song. The other is the Potty Elmo, which teaches kids about potty training. *** Elmo Guest Stars on Hollywood Squares ***

I found out about Elmo's appearance on "Hollywood Squares" from my very good friend and fellow Granny, Barbaroo. She was so happy that she started a brand new topic here at ELB, so all of us could join in her joy. She could not believe she was going to see her little Elmo for five days in a row, sitting high above the crowd in his own little square. She was so excited that she could not even sleep the night before the first show. I, on the other hand, was not even sure I would see him at all. "Hollywood Squares" comes on at 2am here. Monday came, I went to bed. Tuesday, I went to bed again. On Wednesday, I was sure I would remember. I even wrote myself a note reminding me to stay up and watch Elmo. I still can't remember where I put that note! Needless to say, I missed him again. At that point, I gave up. I wasn't going to see Elmo on 'Hollywood Squares." I wasn't even going to try.

<br />
Thursday night something strange happened. I watched Jay Leno. I never watch Jay Leno. I must have been deeply involved with something on the computer, because before I knew it, I heard a voice. It was a familiar voice. It was the voice of Tom Bergeron. Two and a half hours had passed and there it was, "Hollywood Squares!" It seems that I had the correct channel and the correct time, and I was awake-finally! It had to be fate, with a little help from Leno. Needless to say, Elmo is the best guest ever to appear on the "Hollywood Squares." He looked so incredibley cute, sitting on the desk, in his very own square. He answered the questions like only Elmo can. The studio audience was howling. The other stars were laughing so hard that a few almost fell out of their squares!! The more they laughed, the funnier Elmo's comments became. His answers were priceless! The "look" on his sweet little face was perfect.

<br />
Best of all was Elmo's interaction with the other guest stars. All it took was for him to stop and look at one of them, and they were cracking up!! I know they must have had take upon take to get twenty-four minutes of footage they could use. At the end, while the credits were running, outakes of Elmo, Alec Baldwin, and George Wayne (I think!) trying to tape a promo for the show, were running alongside. There sat the three of them, crammed into one tiny square. Elmo was sitting there, looking at these two grown men, who were laughing so hard it was impossible for them to compose themselves. It was the funniest thing I had seen in a long time. With each new attempt, they laughed even harder. I can't imagine how long it must have taken them to finish taping. As far as I know, the three of them could still be there having the time of their lives.

Elmo has been very busy this month! He made two special TV appearances on the West Wing and Dr. Phil shows. On the West Wing, Elmo and his friends didn't get to play a very large part in the show, but they were enjoyed by fans nonetheless. On the other hand, Dr. Phil had a great Sesame Street segment. It featured a brand new muppet named "Dr. Feel". Elmo came out and gave the kids in the audience bunches of kisses! For more about Dr. Phil, see his website at http://www.drphil.com/

The photo album has undergone several changes since it came out about a month ago. Most importantly, several new categories have been added. The "Sesame Street" category contains pictures of other characters on Sesame Street. The "Elmo Collections" category has photos of members' private Elmo collections. The game has been going on for over a month now, and we have had to say goodbye to quite a few players. The latest one was Littleredmonster. The remaining players left is Cartuin, elm0, and Meggie. Meggie and Cartuin both have one strike against them and elm0 has no strikes against her. The game has 4 more Challenges left to compete in, and two more eliminations before we will find out who will be the Ultimate Elmo Fan. Caroll Spinney, who is the muppeteer behind Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch, has written a new book called "The Wisdom of Big Bird/the Dark Genius of Oscar the Grouch". Not only do we learn about these two beloved characters, but he also shares with us his thoughts on Elmo and how he dealt with the new kid on the block. He explains that Elmo's the reason why Big Bird has seemed to mature over the years. This book sounds great for any Sesame Street fan. *** 30th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ***

Sesame Street won the Emmy for Outstanding Pre-School Series for the ninth consecutive year! They have won this honor every year since the category was created. At the May 10th Creative Craft presentation, Sesame Street collected another five Emmys. The series now has a total of 86 Emmys! The muppets of Sesame Street sang a tribute to Mister Rogers during the presentation.

This month's news is sad but it helps you to understand that Elmo's love spreads to people's lives and touches them. We have created a new forum named "When Sad Things Happen" for stories such as these ones.

Mothers day passed not too long ago and if you were in this little girl's shoes, it was a painful one. Maybe you all had fun and gave your mother some hugs, kisses and presents, but this unfortunate family was filled with sadness and could not even see their mother. She had contracted SARS and had passed away on that day. The news interviewed the family and the youngest daughter was holding an elmo doll throughout the whole interview. She seemed very attatched to it and we at ELB just hope that Elmo will comfort her in the midst of her losses. Has anyone of you lost something important to you? Have you cried over it and never got over it? This is a story about a woman's courage to create a website that maybe just reached out to other people who lost not something, but SOMEONE very special. Jessica lost her son, Tamulah, in a very tragic accident. Her son loved elmo but what's important is that she is brave enough to put the past behind her and move on, with the thought that he will always be in her heart and we will help her along the way. It's important to be brave enough to let other people know that they're not the only one who has lost someone and they aren't alone. This issue begins with some sad news for everyone. Michael Jeter, who played Mr. Noodle's brother, Mr. Noodle, has passed away. There's no news yet on whether there will be any new Noodles in future Elmo's World episodes, but Michael will be missed by us all.

<i>Ultimate Elmo Fan Challenge Update</i>

The applications are closed for the game. The game started Friday, April 25th, the players are working on the first challenge for this season of the Ultimate Elmo Fan Challenge. Just about everyone has participated and is working hard at winning points to keep themselves safe from being eliminated from the game. The first challenge is called 99 reasons I love Elmo, the players have the weekend to complete this challenge. The following updates will be to let you know who gets eliminated along with how the game is being played out.

New Moderator

Barbaroo has agreed to be the moderator for the Holidays forum at ELB. I'm glad to have so many friendly members at this board, but Barbaroo is probably one of the nicest people that I've ever met. She currently keeps a list of birthdays for Elmo lovers on her website and sends them special greetings on their birthday. I can't think of anyone better to moderate the holidays forum. Congrats Barbaroo and welcome to the team!

Thousands of people love Elmo, but who is the Ultimate Elmo Lover? Elmo's Playground is now hosting a game in the Elmo Lover Board to find out who deserves this title. This is the first ever multiplayer online Elmo game and we hope that you will come to be a part of this. If you would like to compete for this title, you will need to go to http://forum.elmolover.com and register for a username if you haven't already. Then post your application in the game's application forum and you will be notified when the game starts.
